Local Golden Couple Perform at the Royal Spa Centre
Retired couple David and Doreen English, from Stratford – Upon – Avon, were looking for a choir to join as a hobby when David came across an advert for Sing Live. Their hobby turned into an experience of a lifetime, as they rehearsed for a performance at the Royal Spa Centre, ‘Sing the Hits of the 60’s and 70’s’.
Here is David’s story:
‘My wife wanted to sing in a choir in the year 2000, and just by chance I saw an advert for singers and novices to attend a Road Show at Myton School.
Co-founders John Morris and Linda Metcalfe introduced us to Sing Live and their aims to fulfill their motto – ‘ordinary people, doing extraordinary things – in exciting places’.
I only went along to support Doreen, but I too was bowled over. Even though I couldn't read music, let alone sing on stage, I gave it a shot and haven’t looked back since. There were no auditions,
Under the direction of Barry Todd our Vocal Coach, we soon adapted to his teaching methods and enjoyed the atmosphere immensely - we were hooked.
Since then we went on to sing at Warwick Arts Center, Birmingham Symphony Hall & Alexandra Theatre, the Hallam Arena Sheffield and at the Royal Albert Hall.
But the biggest event of all for us was our trip to Florida to sing at Disney Epcot Center in the Candle Light Processional - we were the first choir from outside of America ever to sing there. We did the same the next year, then joined a Cruise Ship, where we sang whilst sailing around the Caribbean!!!
When we sang ‘Sing the Hits from the 60’s and 70’s’ we were in full costume, so that was a real fun experience. This year Doreen and I will be celebrating our Golden Wedding, and that concert was part of our celebrations.’
